Moroccan Dream Soap

Not just another spicy soap recipe

Invigorating orange and spicy cinnamon combine for an exotic treat in our Moroccan Dream cold process soap recipe.

Promoting collagen production, orange essential oil boosts blood flow to the skin’s surface for a more radiant complexion. Often added to skin creams and lotions, soothing orange oil softens tight, irritated skin, also acting as a natural healer for acne-prone complexions.

Cinnamon oil, meanwhile, is antiseptic and firming, reducing inflammation. The sweet, heady scent is soothing and exotic; in Morocco, cinnamon is regularly added to sliced oranges as part of a traditional dessert.

Moroccan Dream Cold Process Soap Recipe:

Ingredients

  • 54 oz virgin olive oil
  • 54 oz soybean oil
  • 36 oz coconut oil
  • 54 oz water
  • 20 oz lye
  • 2 tbsp grated orange peel soaked in 3 oz castor oil
  • 3 oz cinnamon fragrant oil
  • 3 oz orange essential oil

Equipment

  • Safety goggles
  • Rubber gloves
  • Wooden or plastic soap mould
  • Large stainless steel or enamel pot
  • Weighing scales
  • Hand stick blender
  • Two 3 qt size plastic pitchers
  • Two thermometers
  • Two wooden spoons
  • Measuring cup, 2 or 3-cup size
  • Freezer paper
  • An old blanket or large rag
  • Piece of cardboard cut to fit the mold as a lid

Method

1. With your goggles and gloves on, measure out the lye into one of the two pitchers and the water into the other. Add the water to the lye, stir and leave to heat up to between 100 and 125 degrees, which can take a number of hours.

2. While you wait, measure out the olive oil, coconut oil and soybean oil. Add the oils to you pot and heat on the stove until they reach a temperature of between 100 and 125 degrees.

3. Prepare your soap mold by lining it with freezer paper.

4. When both the lye mixture and the oils reach the right temperature, pour the lye solution into the oils and stir. Use a stick blender to speed things along

5. When the mixture starts showing tracks, known as ‘tracing’, add the grated orange peel, orange essential oil and cinnamon fragrant oil. Continue to blend for between 10 and 20 minutes until tracing is complete.

6. Working swiftly, pour the mixture into your lined soap mold and cover with the cardboard lid and blanket. Leave to stand for 18 hours.

7. Remove the blanket and lid after 18 hours and let the soap air for a few hours more. Leave in loaves or cut to size and let the soap harden up on an open drying rack for a minimum of two weeks.
